Is Jesus Christ the Promised Messiah?

Old Testament Prophecies fulfilled
in the New Testament by Jesus Christ
1. The Birth of
Jesus
(OT) Isa 7:14
Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a
virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his
name Immanuel.
(NT) Mat 1:21-23
And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his
name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was
spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin
shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they
shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is,
God with us
2. John The
Baptist
(OT) Isa 40:3-5
The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye
the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway
for our God. Every valley shall be exalted, and every
mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall
be made straight, and the rough places plain: And the glory
of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it
together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
(NT) Mat 3:1-3
In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the
wilderness of Judaea, And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom
of heaven is at hand. For this is he that was spoken of by
the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the
wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths
straight.
3. The Messiah
(OT) Isa 61:1-3
The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD
hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he
hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim
liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to
them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the
LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all
that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give
unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the
garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they
might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the
LORD, that he might be glorified.
(NT) Luk 4:16-21
And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and,
as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath
day, and stood up for to read. And there was delivered unto
him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened
the book, he found the place where it was written, The
Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me
to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal
the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives,
and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them
that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the
Lord. And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the
minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were
in the synagogue were fastened on him. And he began to say
unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your
ears.
4. The Temptation
(OT) Psa 91:11-12
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee
in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands,
lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
(NT) Mat 4:5-6
Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth
him on a pinnacle of the temple, And saith unto him, If thou
be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He
shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their
hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash
thy foot against a stone.
5. The Light
(OT) Isa 9:2 The
people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they
that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them
hath the light shined.
(NT) Mat 4:16-17
The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to
them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is
sprung up. From that time Jesus began to preach, and to
say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
6. Taught in
Parables
(OT) Psa 78:2-3 I
will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings
of old: Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have
told us.
(NT) Mat 13:34-35
All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables;
and without a parable spake he not unto them: That it might
be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will
open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have
been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
7. The Cleansing
of the Temple
(OT) Psa 69:9
For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the
reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me.
(NT) Joh 2:16-17
And [Jesus] said unto them that sold doves, Take these
things hence; make not my Father's house an house of
merchandise. And his disciples remembered that it was
written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me up.
8. His Triumphant
Entry into Jerusalem
(OT) Zec 9:9
Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of
Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just,
and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and
upon a colt the foal of an ass.
(NT) Luk 19:33-35
And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said
unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord
hath need of him. And they brought him to Jesus: and they
cast their garments upon the colt, and they set Jesus
thereon.
9. The
Skeptics
(OT) Isa 53:1 Who
hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD
revealed.
(NT) Joh 12:37-38
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet
they believed not on him: That the saying of Esaias the
prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath
believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord
been revealed?
10. His
Crucifixion
(OT) Psa 22:6 -
8 But I am a worm, and no man; a reproach of men, and
despised of the people. All they that see me laugh me to
scorn: they shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying,
He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him: let him
deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. Psa 22:16 For dogs
have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have enclosed
me: they pierced my hands and my feet. Psa 22:17-18 I may
tell all my bones: they look and stare upon me. They part my
garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture. Psa
34:20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.
Psalm 69:21 They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my
thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.
(NT) Mat 27:39-43
And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it
in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come
down from the cross. Likewise also the chief priests mocking
him, with the scribes and elders, said, He saved others;
himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him
now come down from the cross, and we will believe him. He
trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have
him: for he said, I am the Son of God. Luke 23:3 And when
they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there
they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right
hand, and the other on the left. Mat. 27:35 And they
crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that
it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They
parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they
cast lots. Joh 19:32-33 Then came the soldiers, and brake
the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified
with him. But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was
dead already, they brake not his legs: Mat 27:34They gave
him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had
tasted thereof, he would not drink.
11. The Resurrection
( OT) Psa 16:10
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou
suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
(NT) Act
13:35 Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt
not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
12. Ascension
(OT) Psa 68:18
Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive:
thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious
also, that the LORD God might dwell among them
(NT) Eph 4:8
Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led
captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men.
